Productive, reliable, straightforward, favorably priced - a sound concept that has made the Extra series a winner worldwide. And synonymous with versatility and high efficiency for a wide spectrum of molded parts, in a clamping force range from 280 to 2,200 US tons.

Whether it is the clamp, machine bed construction, screw quick-connect coupling, or variable delivery pump the Extra incorporates a number of field-proven components. They have created in the Extra a machine configuration that assures outstanding economics.

Clamping unit: short and fast
The clamping unit, which is programmable for all parameters, provides ample space for large molds despite is short length. Integrated into the end plate of the straight hydraulic clamping unit (up to 120 US tons), there are two clamping cylinders (A) and a flow multiplier (B). This enables the machine to perform fast movements even with low flow rates thanks to the variable delivery pump (C). At and above 140 US tons, the powerful kinematics of the 5-point double toggle ensures short locking times and high locking forces.

Injection unit: open and ergonomic
The open, readily accessible design of the injection unit is a salient feature of the Extra. The screw quick- connect coupling permits convenient and fast screw changes, simplifies the coupling-up of the injection unit, and facilitates the cleaning of the non-return valve and screw.

Hydraulics: economical and dynamic
The hydraulic system of the Extra is powered by an electronically controlled DFE pump. Any desired pressure-flow characteristic can be precisely set. The electronic control unit is installed directly on the proportional valve of the pump to be readily accessible.

Ergocontrol - pinpoint control and manipulation
The heart of the Extra is the Ergocontrol operator terminal. Clearly organized function units conveniently and logically assist the operator from setting up the machine, through process optimization, to documentation. The central shuttle wheel permits effortless navigation through the menus and graphics. The diskette drive enables software, machine and quality data to be read in, stored and printed out on the integrated printer (optional). Additionally an interface to the master computer (optional) permits the ma- chine to be tied into the higher level production structure. Another feature that makes operation easier is the start-up/shut-down program by means of which the machine functions can be programmed with ease and speed.
